Welcoming Hanna Nore - Master Tanner Joins Boreal Bioproducts

We are committed to developing high-performance, sustainable solutions from forestry side-streams. As we continue to grow and expand our applications across different industries, we are excited to announce the newest addition to our team: Hanna Nore, who is joining us as a Leather Tanning Specialist. Hanna brings with her an unparalleled level of craftsmanship and knowledge.

Her appointment also marks an important milestone for us as we continue to build sector-specific expertise to support the commercialization of our bio-based materials.

Hanna is a master tanner, artisan, author and educator, bringing more than two decades of expertise in traditional leather tanning and craftsmanship to the team. Based on Kimito Island in the Finnish Archipelago, she has spent 22 years mastering the intricate art of vegetable tanning, training hundreds of artisans, and sharing her knowledge through lectures across Finland and internationally. Hanna is also the author of two widely acclaimed books on leather tanning, available in both Finnish and English.

Her reputation has made her a respected voice in the leather industry. She brings not only technical excellence but also a strong ethical approach to materials and methods.

Hanna’s passion for tanning is deeply rooted in her hands-on approach to the craft and she believes that each rawhide is unique, requiring slight variations in technique to achieve the best results. Sustainability and responsibility have always been central to Hanna’s work. She places great importance on the origin of raw materials, focusing on domestic sourcing and low-impact processes that respect ecosystems and honor natural materials.

Her approach to leather production focused on longevity, functionality, and respect for the raw materials resonates deeply with our own commitment to innovation and sustainable development.

We are driven by a vision to rethink how side-streams from the forest industry can be used to create new value across sectors. Our products are designed not only for performance, but also to reduce environmental impact and promote circular resource use. The leather industry, like many others, is seeking more transparent, traceable and safer alternatives to conventional methods. Boreal Bioproduct’s materials, created from byproducts of the forestry industry, offer a unique opportunity to respond to this demand while enabling businesses to meet stricter environmental targets and consumer expectations.

Hanna’s journey with our team began in late 2024 through early collaborative testing. After achieving outstanding results with our products, Hanna joined our team on a mission to bridge historical material with modern bioproducts. With Hanna’s deep industry expertise, we are well positioned to explore new opportunities in leather tanning, bringing together craftsmanship, sustainability and science in a meaningful way.

"Our goal is to return to our Northern roots," Hanna explains. "The origins of sustainable leather tanning are right here, in the Finnish spruce forests. Through innovation and tradition, we have opened a door that the leather industry closed almost a century ago."

In her role as Leather Tanning Specialist, Hanna will lead application development efforts to succeed in the leather sector. Her expertise will play a crucial role in demonstrating how natural and sustainable materials can shape the future of the industry. This marks a significant step for us as we continue our mission to rethink the potential of forestry side-streams

We are excited to have Hanna on board and look forward to sharing more about our work together. Stay tuned as we continue to explore the possibilities of spruce leather tanning and build a stronger bridge between nature, history and innovation.

Welcome to the team, Hanna!
